This child is a member of one of the many hill tribes of Thailand. Faced with poverty, hill-tribe parents are enticed into accepting ‘loans’ for their children, believing that their children will be going to work for a wealthy family in the city and therefore have a chance of a better life Unfortunately the child is taken to a brothel and convinced she must pay back the money advanced to her parents. If she does not comply, she is beaten and eventually sexually assaulted. However, the issue is complex and some families are actively involved in trafficking and know exactly where the girls will end up.
The Grey Man organisation puts their operatives into harm’s way by going into the brothels to get kids out. Some of our people are former special-forces soldiers, some are ex-police but we also have journalists, bikers and academics. In fact, anyone can be a Grey Man. All it takes is to make a stand for something, to declare ‘If not me…then who?’ and most importantly, TAKE ACTION!!
We prefer our rescue operations to remain covert and so you will not find footage of our activities on this website nor photos of rescued children although we are considering the possibility of putting up some case histories with blanked out photos of rescued girls in the near future. Although, to some degree we feel that this would be exploiting those already exploited, there may be an educational payoff in doing so. We generally do everything "under the radar" without the dramatic brothel raids of other organisations. However, we have had to revise this policy recently. As our opposition respond to our operations against them, it has become increasingly difficult to find the girls and get them out as now they are much more likely to be kept hidden in locked rooms. Though our preferred mode of operation is to win by stealth rather than by force, recently we have become involved in joint operations with the police.
We do not seek publicity but the media often approaches us and we allow some minimal coverage of what we do to spread awareness of the problem.
